That the United States is not an impenetrable fortress or an invincible, indestructable force as some would believe....that government can really fail (not just annoy us)...that not everyone in the world thinks that the U.S. is the "best nation in the world"; quite the contrary, some think we are the worst of the worst; that we are all "infidels" and need to be destroyed...
I think 9/11 also showed us that the human spirit is stronger than we ever imagined; that when it really comes right down to it, we DO care about each other, even though we assume this macho, post-modern, super-independent facade on an every-day basis. I think it also showed us that there are far more people who believe in or hope that there is a God...that religion plays a far bigger role in our lives than we would have assumed...these are the things I've come away with, post 9/11.

Despite all the evil in the world, there are those who give their lives to save others. In times of crisis, we can all band together and help each other out. At least for a short time. Then we can divide ourselves along partisan lines and spew venom at each other.

It showed us really how dumb George bush actually is. it showed us the downside of having skyscrapers(especially when they are on fire). It showed me I never want to watch someone leap to their death from a hundred(i guessed this number) storeys up live on TV again, nasty. Hopefully it has also shown the USA government that if you are going to be the world's policeman you had better have more than the 'bullet-proof vest' of your armed forces. Armies/air forces and Navies do not defeat terrorists.

Hatred is a powerful force. In our world 10,000 more Bin Ladens have been born. Clinton was right, "we can not spend our time and our resources killing those with whom we do not agree, we should spend our time finding ways that we do agree" His point was clear Humanity has common ground, we need to find it.

Things are not always what they seem, our government is an inefficent, uncareing, waste of time, we can rely on people to come to our aid.
