Would making 9/11 a national holiday be an approiate way of remembering the lessons of that day? Or would that be like acknowledging that the terrorists have affected our everyday lives to the point that when they strike at us we memorialize it?

In a word... NO.

For those that need more of an explanation, I must go back to the day in question. I was going to work at the time. After starting the engine of my truck, the radio began to play as I nearly always have it on while driving. Before I had any idea what the radio personality was saying, it was clear something was terribly wrong from the tone in their voice. After listening to the radio for about 5 minutes while sitting in the driveway I went inside to turn on the TV. after watching that for another 30 minutes or so, I shook myself out of a stupor and got back in my truck, and went about my business for the day. As the maintenance supervisor for 25 chain restaurants I couldn't afford to be wallowing in my personal emotions; there were a lot of people depending on me. But there was an even more pressing reason to get out the door.

I don't ask me how, but I understood even then on some gut level that whom ever did this regardless of what their reasoning was, they wanted to see America stop for a day, a week, or whatever they could get. They wanted the US of A to hit the proverbial pothole, the trap that they had planned for us and be stuck on the side of the road, with the suspension of our vehicle ruined, and we, as Americans calling for a tow truck. They wanted to see America falter, if not fail.

WHATEVER OUR FAULTS WE ARE STILL A LIGHT TO THIS WORLD.

If you wish to honor those that died that day, be who you are. Be generous, kind, and people of faith. Be productive, industrious, and inventive. Be involved, dedicated, and resolute. Be loyal to your family, Friends and country. Be a person of any color. Be a Jew, Muslim, or Christian. Be an American.

No, but it should be a day of reverence. I remeber 9/11 and the victims more when I'm at work because that's what I was doing that day 5 years ago. If it was a holiday, I would sleep in and do fun things all day. I should be working, just like the people who died were doing that day.

No, it should not. Pearl Harbor day was never made into a National Holiday. Our holidays should focus on an achievement. President's Day is used to commemorate Washington's & Lincoln's birthday, not their funerals. V-E Day was set up to honor Victory in Europe, not defeat. We celebrate the Resurrection on Easter, not the death on the cross. The one exception to this is Memorial Day, when we honor our fallen heros. In my opinion, this is the day to remember those of 9/11.

No! 9/11 is not something you holiday over! it's a day that all Americans reflect on! and mourn the passing of fellow Americans then carry on working to keep this Country great! It's the only way we will win the war on terror.

No. If we make a holiday out of every bad event, someday there will be no free days left in the calendar.

I want it to be a holiday so I can get another day off. They should also make Cesar Chavez Day in March for a federal holiday in March.

No, because it would then be taken like memorial day which was never meant to be a three day weekend to go party.
