I wrk @ stansted airport, and from my point of view, everything has changed! No sharp objects, higher level of screening and security, no liquids, fozens, or gels.
On the bigger scale, wars on other countries, racism, hate amongst the world, sterotyping and too many scares....A lot has changed in the last 5 years.

The world has changed. Major terrorist attacks have proven that the American homeland is no longer safe from attack from whatever source. This time it was the Al Qaeda next time - God only knows. Another frightening aspect, or so it seems to me on the UK side of the pond, is the total abuse and disbelief dished out by US citizens against their Government, their Security Services and their President. I find this aspect far more shocking than the actual attack. That so many people can possibly believe that the Government was implicit in the attacks is totally beyond my comprehension. Free Speech is a wonderful part of American life, but the venom, the allegations and the hatred poured out daily on this forum makes one wonder if whilst upholding Free Speech and all its aspect, common decency and respect for the dead should be equally taught in US schools. As I said at the beginning, the world has changed probably forever. God help us................

We are slowly inching towards the truth. On 9/11 it was accepted almost like gospel that Al Qaeda was responsible for 9/11. Today, we at least have evidence to show that the collapse of the twin towers was a contolled demolition planned by the US government to create a pretext to implement the project for a new american century.

A sence of fear from everyone. We were all walking around in a haze, never thinking that something like this could happen to any of us.But now it has all changed.
Thet still haven't made the "official" memorial @ ground zero.

We realize we are the same as everywhere else in the world we can be attacked, and we are hated by some. We also can share our sorrows with the world, and can reach out and help others and share common experiences.

National pride was increased for a time,, I think it's starting to fade somewhat, which I think is sad.

America realised what the "Freedom Fighters" it supported over the years in Northern Ireland weren't quite as romantic a notion any more. Also it got the chance to do what it wants regardless of international law, Geneva convention in the name of the "War" on terror

Since then, our country has lost a budget surplus of over 2 percent and now has a deficit of about an equal amount; over a thousand Americans have been killed in Iraq, and untold numbers of Iraquis, the historical records of the Cradle of Civilization have been lost forever, thousands of innocent Muslims have been harassed, abused, denied their civil rights and imprisoned in hideous dungeons, civil rights for non-Muslims have likewise been further curtailed, people are forced to swallow more and more lies, censorship, invasions of privacy, ugly commercialism and ever-more shallow excuses for business-as-usual, more people are dead and lives permanently violated due to inadequate budget for REAL disasters (Katrina, etc), the world's ecology is ever more devastated due to occupation of Iraq and inadequate response to invasion of Lebanon, just for starters; increasing despair and starvation in Africa, more environmental exploitation in Africa and Latin America and everywhere else; more despair at our national borders due to everything else; more repression of would-be newcomers after being squeezed out of their own countries due to increasing globalization (global neo-con uniformity).....More debasement of popular culture...shoddier public education....more people without health insurance.....more degenerative diseases.....more compromised food ...more paranoia...more divisiveness...more fear..... more global warming..........less time to turn it all around.......

Immediately afterwards the US was united. We had an enemy to fight. We were willing to do whatever it took to protect ourselves. Now, we are afraid to offend someone, so instead of searching people of a certain ethnicity we search an old woman or a young harried mother. We were willing to stand in long lines for flights, now we grumble and complain about the time it takes. We were once united, now we are divided. Remember, united we stand, divided we fall.
