Hello Dear Friend,
Me and my wife will be in Kuala Lumpur(Hotel Quality City Center-Jalan Raja Laut) from September 19 till September 26 2006 for fist visit of Malaysia. I have 3 Question.

1-I am looking for theatres to see traditional dance Show or have the sense of hearing any live folklore music in KL.
I found 2 such Places:
1. National Theater Site: http://www.istanabudaya.gov.my/
With The address: Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.
2. Saloma Traditional Theatre Restaurant http://www.saloma.com.my
Within the vicinity of Malaysia Tourism Centre (MTC)
Can any of these tow places satisfy my above mentioned needs? If not; could you give me other addresses?

2-I'm also interested in traditional music, so I like to buy some CD or DVD of this kind (no pop music).
Would you do me a favor to find where I can purchase them?

3- I have the address of The crystal shopping which is :
No 11, Jalan Manis 4, Taman Segar, 56100 Kuala Lumpur
Could you please guide me for exact locati

You'd have to check with the schedule of the Istana Budaya and Saloma theater.. there're also other places that might be of interest but i'm not sure if they are showing traditional dance shows, since traditional dance shows are pretty common when it comes to festivities, officiating ceremonies and stuff, not many people (locals, in the least) would actually go pay to watch them, at least not in KL.
But if you are going to Saloma, then you might want to drop by at the MTC office and ask them about the current happenings, I'm sure they'd be able to help.

If you go to the Mini Malaysia in Melaka, if i'm not mistaken they have weekly traditional dance performances.
By traditional music, do you mean instrumental?
You can find many cds and dvds of such in the local music stores, ask the storekeep for Irama Malaysia genre.

Oh, btw, by traditional dance, do you mean traditional malay, traditional chinese, or traditional indian dance?

As for your 3rd question, Taman Segar is located in the Cheras vicinity. The easiest way would be to take a cab from your hotel, it shouldn't be too far. Or, if you like, you could take the LRT (star line) to cheras, and take a cab from there. Shouldn't be too far. I don't think there's a direct way using public transport to take you to the place.

A suggestion for you, you might want to visit the Central Market, for some nice stuff there. Bargaining is allowed (and very much needed) there.

I'm staying in KL so if you should need any assistance, feel free to contact me, my yahoo i.d as my username is.

Have a nice trip!

Hi there

I've been to KL quite a few times and not seen any traditional malay dance yet!

I've been to a few Indian temples and see trad indian dance there.

The hotel should definitely be able to help you and ANY big music store will see the CDs/DVDs.

A good band (from Indonesia though - not Malaysia) is Peter Pan - they have one amazing song...Mungkin Nanti - I LOVE that!

Enjoy yourself - I wish I was going again very soon too!
