Solution
In most cases, the sad iPod icon indicates a hardware issue. If you are able to force iPod into Disk Mode, then it may not be a hardware issue, and you should try to restore your iPod with the latest software.

If you cannot force your iPod into disk mode and restore it, then your iPod is in need of service, set up an iPod Service Request or visit your local Apple Retail Store.

I've never had that happen but mine freezes up go to apple.com and go to Q&A section and they will e-mail your answer back it took about 5 minutes to answer some of the questions asked can be fixed right then and there it will tell yu what to do

by no skill heard of that going on, yet attempt waking it up. plug your ipod into your laptop. swap the best button from side to side (the only that makes the buttons no longer paintings) till it doesnt teach the orange piece. than place your ipod on a flat floor and press the middle and the play button down for some seconds till you notice that apple emblem! wish that enables!
