When we touch apiece of chesse we are touching cheese atoms which are a small volume compare to the space beween the atoms=so in reallity are we touching more space than protons and electrons?

Note ;does matter necessarily have mass? how do you explain massless particles?

um space isn't matter so we cant touch it. we can only touch matter.

No.

Space is the distance between the matter.

And if you touch a piece of cheese, Grommit, the fact that it is mostly comprised of the space between the particles has little or nothing to do with the actual cheese and, at most, just helps determine its density.

We cannot "touch" space, we can only "touch" the matter in space.

And for the additional inquiries:
"Massless Particles" is an oxymoron. The term 'particle' implies mass.

The jury is still out on "dark matter."

Not really! Space has a connotation of emptiness while matter is a substance with density although space too has some cosmic dust in it. Matter on the other hand can be solid liquid or gaseous. It has properties such as mass, density, volume, weight, inertia,
elasticity,adhesion,hardness,
brittleness,porosity,surface tension,
compressibility and so on

Matter is not space. Matter exists in space. You exist in space. You are touching it all the time. There can be no massless matter .It exists Only in theory to explain some unknown.

How are you able to to touch space? You can touch matter, cars, animals, people. How can you touch time? It's a state of existence. Matter is a state of being. Space is what is occupied.

Kaysee is right. Here is another way to look at it:

"Matter is anything which has mass AND takes up space." I hope that helps.
