I was taking dance classes at a club with a lady friend of mine when she started to cut up, dancing, kicking and goofing off while the instructor was talking to the group. I ignored it but then she grabbed my arm and started pulling me, trying to get me to join her. I told her that it was disruptive and disrespectful to the instructor, which caused her to explode at me. She told me that I couldn't tell her what to do with her body, she had the right to do anything she wanted, it was her body and no one could control her, etc etc.
I think that the feminist crusader is so driven to create scenarios which allow her to lash out at men that they totally forget that other people have rights as well. Like the instructor who is putting himself on the spot to teach a group of 60 people, who I believe has the right not to be interrupted in class; like my right not to be coerced to disrupt his class.

Looking at the answers, I DO think this is a feminist issue with her. Another example: I was dancing with her one night. She had an injured shoulder. Once she got behind the beat and jerked hard with that arm to catch up. After the dance, I told her that she shouldn't feel obligated to catch up, if that meant risking a worse injury. She should just stop and I would wait for her, then start again on the next beat cycle. She blew up and said: "It was her body, she could hurt it if she wanted to and I couldn't tell her what to do with it." There is a pattern of similar events with her. I'm breaking up with her.

I'm sure that in her mind it is a feminist issue and that most, if not all, of the answerers so far would probably concur. What we're saying is that we think her actions have everything to do with her *psychological* issues and that she is using feminist language inappropriately to yell about them. Feminists don't say that someone has the right to hurt herself.
I don't know that she's necessarily driven to create scenarios as much as she's reading her past history into current events. That can be a way of trying to assert control over things which happened long ago.
Given everything that seems to be going on with her, you're probably right in breaking up with her. But please don't think of her actions as feminist.

I think it is fair to say that there has been a need for action to bring the rights of women in line with those of men, and there remain issues which need to be addressed. A feminist is someone, male or female, who appreciates inequality and is brave enough to put themselves out there and voice an opinion.
A woman who likes to lash out at men, using misinterpreted feminist ideals, is likely to be doing so as a reaction to some injustice she perceives she has suffered at the hands of a man.
A true feminist wishes both sexes to grow stronger, side by side, rather than emasculate men and win some silly race of the sexes...

First, there is a time and a place for everything.
Second, she is not doing because of she is a feminist. She had something in her life that was upsetting her greatly. So she released the tensions by acting up in class.
People become obsessed when they are facing problems they feel they cannot resolve. So to "hide" the problems, they become deeply involved with other things.
Best example is Jehova Witnesses. NO ONE stands in front of gas stations with booklets INSTEAD of going to work unless they have something huge emotional bothering them.

Your friend was absolutely wrong. You calling her on her bad behavior made her defensive which caused her to become mean.
Don't confuse her outburst with true feminism. You did nothing to set her off on that topic.

Feminists should burn in hell. And your friend completely overreacted. You should have knocked her into next week.
