Hello, i hope you will be ok..and yes this is very noble of you.since you have a brain enjury then you need a simple routin. you need to start out with simply things until you get the hang of things again..
To make things easy on you, you needs to put small trash cans in each room..no biggy i have then in all my rooms. so you dont have to walk far to throw stuff away,,will make things easy for you
dusting only has to be done maybe once a week, i took a old pair of my husbands undies and pledge. i use them to dust with,, they dont leave dusty particules behind..you can do one room at a time each week or do it all at the same time..who cares if its all dusted at the same time..just be glad it gets dusted..
WHen i mop i like to use pinsole in water..but you might want to see if its a none wax flloor..if you not sure you can use plain water and a mop..this can be done once a week also..but not nessacery..i sweep the floor at least once a day,,but i have dogs and kids you might not have to do it that much..maybe every couple of days..
to do laundry this is a little thougher.
separte your clothes,,,whites,,,darks,,lights,,
read the tag on them to make sure they arent dry clean only
and if they are 100% cotton they dont go in the dryer you will need to hang them up or lay them down flate to dry.if you put them in the dryer they will shrink
first fill up the washer,,i use warm water for every load.i dont think cold water gets everything clean..then put one scoop or i cap full of detergent in the water and let it finish filling up..i also use 1/2 cup of pinsole in with my darks to get them a little cleaner and this also makes them smell a little fresher..but not nessasary..
put the clothes in the washer and shut the lide and let them wash
when the washer is on rinse you can add a cap full of fabric softner but not nessasery..then when done washing put in the dryer..i use high heat but use the temperture that you want to use of what ever the tags says on the clothes..
i use this for the darks and the lights..
and for the whites i do this
fill the washer add your detergent a cap or scoopfull. then i add one cup of bleach but not nessacery..someone in the house might be allergic to it..i turn the washer off for about 1 hour to get the whites white but not nessasery..then when they are on rinse i add the softener..then when done i put in the dryer for one hour or until the clothes are dry..
when dry fold the clothes right then so they dont wrinkle or hang then up and put away...
and for the bathroom..
go buy one of the bathroom wands..clorox bath wand or mr clean.they have a sponge on a tick so you dont have to bend over and wipe..it has cleaner on it so all you have to do is wipe the tub and the sink and the toilet..this needs to be done no lease then once a week..you can pour straigh bleach in the toilet and dont even have to scrub it at all..just wipe the out side off
if you need more help let me know..just send me a email..
oh yeah on the dusting heres a better ideal for you
buy the pledge wipes they look like diaper wipes..this is a much easier way to dust..you dont have to fool with a separet bottle and rag..just grab one and start wiping..i love them..

The trick to keeping a clean home is keeping up with it. Every morning, the first thing you should do (you can also do this in the evening) is go through the whole house and put things where they belong... dirty laundry in hampers, bills on the desk, dirty dishes in the sink, etc. Take out the newspapers and recyclables. Collect the garbage from around the house. Then begin with each project at a time. Clean up the kitchen. Tackle bills and paperwork. Sort and start the laundry. If you tackle chores one project at a time in segments, it's not so overwhelming.
I would say that dusting and vacuuming should be done once a week with a deep clean using a product such as Murphy's Oil Soap once every month or two. You should sweep your floors as often as needed, but again, a good rule of thumb is once a week. Mopping is something that I personally hate to do and only do once every 3 months. I found that the Swiffer Wet Jet (or another brand's variety of this same tool) is very easy to use compared to a mop and bucket, and as a result I mop more often now. This can be used on vinyl floors. If you prefer a bucket and mop, use a pine cleanser that you mix with water for a great scent and deep-cleaning.
Good luck with all this! Once you get into a routine and know how to segment your chores, you will see that it's not too hard to keep up with.

Oh you are such a good guy! She is a lucky lady!
okay you are right when you say get a routine. The only way to do the house and keep it clean with out being overwhelmed is to get a schedule and stick to it.
This is a pretty average household chore routine to implement;
You have no kids at home so that is a plus lol
Monday
wash day
this is the day of the week you do your laundry if you have enough clothes to make it a full week with out doing it again.
since you remarked you needed help in this area I will detail it a little for you
sort the clothes, white things (sheets, towels, wash cloths, dish towel) in one pile, shirts and underthings in another, then jeans, heavy dark clothes in another.
wash the whites first cause they take the most time drying.use liquid Tide detergent, and clorox bleach. put in one capful of the detergent. and use the same cap from the detergent bottle put in two capfuls of bleach to the washer, put it on hot wash and cold rinse and the longest washing time it has.
when they are done put in the dryer with one bounce fabric softerner sheet and let em dry the other two loads put in and add one capful of detergent and use cold to wash and cold to rinse, same thing when drying them .
After you have the washing machine going check your dish washer and turn it on if you need to.
then you are going to sweep and mop the mopping type floors, Use MOP & Glo floor cleaner and a sponge mop or rag mop which ever you have. and just squirt it in a little space and mop it with a wet mop. rinse out the mop and squirt in another area and do the same thing till your done,
sit down and take a good long break. the laundry will take time and just turn on the dryer buzzer to remind you when they are ready to be folded and hung up.
okay now then, you really need to sweep every day or at least every other day, but mopping is only once a week
that is all you do today besides the cooking and the kitchen okay
Tuesday
today is dust and clean the bathroom day
In the bathroom use lysol toliet bowl cleaner and dow bathroom scrubbing bubbles to clean the tub and upper parts of the toliet. just follow the directions on the bottles and you will be fine in there clean the mirrors with windex or use acohol on a dry wash cloth if you don't have any it works pretty good and disinfects at the same time
For your dusting. you need some Pledge furniture polish. and and an old towel or dish towel. just take all the knicknacks off the furniture and spray the polish onto the towel and then wipe off the dust. wipe off the knicknacks and put every thing back.
YOu should not have to do this over once a week on tuesdays if you use coasters and things to sit your glasses on and eat in the kitchen.
You should not have to do the bathroom but once a week.
that is all for the day except for the cooking and cleaning up of the dishes,
I would load the dishwasher at night and wait until I had breakfast dishes ready to put in too before I ran the washer.
okay how does that sound to you . I hope I have helped you in any small way I can.
good luck and i pray you get more of your memory back soon if at all possible

I think what you are trying to do is VERY noble =) And your wife is very lucky to have you trying to do your best =) It is very thoughtful of you.
You had a lot of questions =)
1) Floors.... something like Pinesol or other floor cleaner is diluted with water... I bet she has some wherever she keeps her cleaning products. As for how often.... depends on the need.. if it just you and her, you may only have to do it once or twice a week, just as needed not a specific number.
2) LAUNDRY.... you may want to leave this and go over it with her.... a lot of damage can be done.. sort the laundry in Whites, colours and darks (jeans etc).... a red shirt in the whites may turn the entire load pink.. yikes. I honestly feel you should speak to her and use her method.. BELIEVE me she will appreciate it more than your doing it on your own, I promise =)
3) Dusting.... well I live on a farm and after i finish dusting i might as well start again... some people only do it once a week.. again as needed.
Best of luck.

Start simple. Write everything down that needs to be done, keep a pencil and note pad with you so that when you think of something that needs to be done you can write it down immediately. Get your self a large Monday thru Sunday calender, one where you have enough room to write things on. Start by writing things down that you know needs to be done. Like dusting, you could dust every Wednesday, and wash windows on Fridays. Write the details down if you need to, like what to use for cleaning and what time you are going to do certain tasks. About the sweeping and mopping, if it is just the 2 of you in the house then you probably only need to sweep 2 to 3 times a week and mop once a week. I use the Swiffer wet mop on my floors and it seems to work fine. I wish I could help you lay out some kind of routine, but that is something that only you will be able to do. We can only make suggestions. If your wife has any magazines, like Better Homes and Gardens, they have great cleaning tips in them so browse thru them every so often.
Good Luck.

It sounds like you have your hands full! Don't try to do everything every day - make a job list for each day of the week say - dusting and vacuuming on Monday, sweep and wash floors on Tuesday, clean bathrooms on Wednesday etc. Don't try to do too much. Check the cleaner aisle at the grocery store in your area - there are lots of products for floors and other products for laundry - ask your wife for advise. I'm sure she will be happy to advise.

Hard to imagine a life like that. But the very intention of yours is simply great.
The japanese have a method called the 5S which can help you for your cleaning purposes.
Whenever u need to use something, pick it up from the place, use it, clean it & keep it back in the same place where it needs to be.
This will save a lot of time, you'll never have the problem of forgetting as you no longer need to go back to do the chore. You can find in no time that you are very efficient.
All the best.
Do ask if you need anything more

I feel for you but don,t put yourself under so much stress, i,m sure your wife will be pleased whatever you do, as far as dusting goes, as and when you feel you want to do, it,s not be all and end all you both have a life to live, vinyl floors warm water a touch of liquid, or floor cleaner wipe over to dry. PS make little notes for yourself on chores you think need to be done after-all it will be there when your not.best of luck take care
