The media is arrogant. Individuals are all different some are some aren't - same as anywhere else.
I have to admit, after reading some of these answers, some americans really can make a fool of themselves with thier arrogance. I agree America is a great country but to say things along the lines of we are the only ones who save the world and we live better than you live - well they must have never been out of the country. It is a sad combination of arrogance and ignorance.
and yes, I am American

Not arrogant. Americans are some of the most caring and sensitive people in the world. We actually care about what happens to the less fortunate around the world and as a society we contribute more for peaceful measures and the elimination of poverty and despotism than nearly any other culture on the planet.
We are not perfect. We are human and prone to mistakes like anyone else. So I ask you, why hate all Americans for the actions of a few?

I am British. Americans (the USA) has without a doubt the greatest constitution of any nation on earth. It's just a pity they don't appreciate it. But they are not arrogant - those politicians who seek to undermine it (a government within a government) are arrogant and actively try to give the USA a bad name. Guantanamo Bay, for example. It was declared illegal even by the US Supreme Court. But it still operates. That arrogance, the elite arrogance, must surely be removed by the great American people themselves. No accountability - no government.

Everyone's different. The gov. is a small percentage of the population and (I think, not sure) most people dont vote. Dont know what you see in media . . .I've never been out of America too afraid of airplane crashes and sinking ships. I wouldnt know what most Americans think about the world if there is a majority attitude . . .it's probably changing all the time based on the media here? Most people here are too scared of gettting in poverty to be arrogant; toward the world probably most people dont know what the truth is?

Arrogant toward the world?
Who rescued the world from the Nazis?
Who rescued the world from the Imperialistic Japanese?
Who won the Cold War essentially ending communism in Russia?
Who rid the world of Manuel Noriega, Saddam Hussein, and countless other tinpot dictators.
Who's leading the charge at defeating global terrorist threats?
If it weren't for the US the world would be a MUCH more dangerous place!!

How about European arrogance???? The commie world-wide News Media is the reason for the protrayal of
Americans as being looked upon as arrogance. I still think the US Government should do away with the crooked UN and immediately halt all foreign aid to all
countries and really see how loud the world starts crying when their governments go bankrupt.

Har to say since we don't get to often see how we are portrayed in the media in foreign countrieswith the exception of Al-Jazeera, and we know how objective we are. I will say this...we are often looked to whenever someone needs help, aid, or mediation. It is a responsibility thrust upon us, and most of the haters out there are on the losing side of most American decisions.
We could become isolationists, but then the Saddam Husseins of the world would be allowed to invade smaller countries, conduct mass atrocities and countries like China and Japan would start eying the natural resources in Russia, resulting in global problems.
Its not arrogance, we are invited to most of these issues. Its called global responsibility.

i think that until 9/11 americans had a complete naivety towards the world in general, due to their isolationist policy's and there inward looking education system, IE only learning about america and i feel that it is this reason that we tended to view americans as arrogant , when in reality they were just ill informed on anything outside of america
