Ireland is in the British Isles. The British Isles are off the western coast of Europe.
If you are doing a research paper, I assume you are in college or at least high school. How do you not know where Ireland is? Do they not teach geography anymore?

Is this for real??? Attention all Americans (i assume the person asking the question is one): BUY A MAP AND ATTEND GEOGRAPHY LESSONS AND IF U DO ENSURE THAT THE TEACHER IS QUALIFIED TO TEACH THE SUBJECT! and to answer the question, THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND is located just west of the UK (United Kingdom, just incase u didn't know) which is just west of Europe, which is north of Africa (its that really big continent, shaped like an elephant ear) and is east of Asia which is that huge piece of land located on the earth's surface! I actually can't believe a question like this has been asked! If i was Irish i'd really be offended! and one final note, Ireland is not to be confused with Northern Ireland which is a province of the UK and borders the Republic.

Ireland used to be located in the a$$ of John Bull, where it was a real pain. It was partially removed sometime ago, a complete removal being advised against by Dr. Orange. The remainder has flared up from time to time.
Please, do your homework and check out an atlas. I really can't stand to hear the unimaginative old worlder pot shot about my countrymen's lack of geographic groundings.
(though if it means anything, I met plenty and they are just as ignorant as us, they just fancy themselves not to be)

I can describe it to you but you'll never really know unless you look at a map. Do you have maps in America?
I assume you are American.
