You are spot on correct.
They spew their normal crap. When confronted with facts, logic, and the way things are in the real world, they just spew heavier rhetoric, lies, and insults.
The funny thing is that they do not care, and will continue their inane ramblings.
The best word of advise is that when you feel like arguing with an idiot lib, remember this one saying. "Never argue with an idiot, for a passerby will not be able to tell the difference between you and him/her."

Certainly I have. Of course, this is when the arguement hasn't already been framed and chosen specifically to defeat me.
Oddly enough, when I choose the topic (one I happen to be informed on) and ask a conservative to respond, they generally have a hard time doing so and tend to fall back on either abusive insults or fearmongering. Curious eh?
Not really. When we (liberal or conservative) generally open a topic of conversation, it tends to be one that we are well prepared to defend (as we generally feel strongly about it, and have probably bothered to become informed on the topic), whereas there is only a small chance the person we have chosen to debate with is similarly informed on that specific topic.
Look at it this way - its the same reason a sniper can take out some random soldier standing guard with little problem. Both are soldiers - sure. Both are armed - probably. But one is specifically trained and equipped and prepared for the situation, and the other is not. By the time the other realises what the situation is, it will be far to late to prepare themselves.
Or, how about a world chess champion challenging a world checkers champion to...a chess match.
This doesn't even get into the whole issue of differing points of view, which can easily lead to both informed parties walking away thinking they've won. For example, if I think "Guns Are Evil" (I don't, but for the sake of my example...), and you think Restricting Access to Guns is Evil*, we can both spew all the facts and quotes and statistics we want. You're still going to come away from the debate thinking you're right, no matter how our conversation might have swayed an impartial observer who was teeter-tottering on the issue. Chances are so would I.
So, to answer your question directly, well technically I may never have discussed an issue with a FULLY informed conservative (meaning very well versed on the particualr subject), though I assume there are many well informed conservatives (and liberals) out there. The actual chances of two well informed opposing opinions meeting by chance to discuss a given topic seems acutally pretty rare to me. One will generally have the upper hand on facts, and that will generally be the party initiating the debate.
The problem is, we informed people tend to bump into the uninformed most often, which encourages us to entrench more deeply in our own beleifs as 'correct' since the slack jawed yokel opposing us doesn't seem to have a leg to stand on.
*lol...I just realised that the acronyms (phonetically) are respectively "gay" and "rage!"

I am a Republican and a conservative. I can tell you that George Bush is a liberal based on his actions. Look at who he selects for his cabinet. Liberal. You are talking to a true conservative from a very conservative city. You are not a conservative because true conservatives do not repeat the drivel from the media to sound a certain way and declare they are a conservative. First you have to know what conservative means before you can be one. You sound like a typical neo-talk radio conservative that listens to fat draft dodgers like Bush and Limbaugh and talk like you are a conservative. A true conservative does not build a reputation on what they claim is others weaknessess. A true conservative works hard, believes in conserving not wasting. Bush and other liberals these days are just spoiled college brats that have had everything handed to them. Kerry and Bush are bookends. The Republican party has been liberalized and the typical American that claims to be a conservative is just a sheep that is drilled on what to say and plays on the same rhetoric over and over with the same campaign issues based on their false morals, religion, and war mongering. None of which are traits of a true conservative. Republicans have become sheep instead of the leaders they should be. The same mud slinging tactics of which you are doing is not a true conservative way. This is a cowardly way to focus on others instead of the real issues. Outsourcing, crime, the so called drug war, profit motivation, etc. These are the real issues. Bush is a cheerleader, coke addict, alcoholic, draft dodger, silver spoon fed LIBERAL. Reagan was a DEMOCRAT and flip flopped to a REPUBLICAN. It took a Democrat to be the best Republican we ever had. By the way... Uppity Republican women have most of the abortions because they have them to protect their status in a judgemental environment that is geared toward success, financially, rather than morally. Poor Democrat women are portrayed as the ones having the abortions when they actually use children as a cash crop for welfare support. Welfare was started by the Republican party and ended by a Democrat after sixty some years, Clinton. I am still a Republican but a rare one because I tell it like it is not what talk radio instills in me like you. To the below post: Bush did the things you say because he is a Zionist-Fascist not because of being conservative or liberal. Some of the things you describe are characteristics of Liberals and Conservatives.

Please.... While attempting to pat yourself on the back for a debate issue, where at the end of your details, makes it sound as if YOU haven't won a debate against a liberal either...
But.. your question is lame... and YOU aren't anymore of an American than the liberals you criticize - why? Because you are a divider!!!
United we stand - Divided we fall....
I have yet to hear even a debate-able argument from either side, neither 1 of you give good examples for any kind of a solution for ANYTHING...
And let's face it - Republicans proved that had Clinton been a Republican w/ his lying about a sexual affair nobody would have cared - cause if you can overlook a wmd issue, along with the fact that Iraq had no ties to Al-Qaeda BEFORE the war in Iraq - you can turn the other cheek whenever it's convenient..
Yes.. Democrats suck - but Republicans swallow!
Proud to be an Independent!

You can not win a debate with a conservative. They will never see the other persons side.Take what you say and call it lies, or explain it away with some Bush loving propaganda.THe way you people think is ridiculous its like you go through life with blinders on.The best you can hope to do with a conservative is out talk them. I have tried, but you idiots just keep going and going and I have to stop because im disgusted with the level of stupidity that has now filled the room every time one of you gets going. Its easier to insult you people, than try to get you to listen to reason, because you are all like brainwashed zombies repeating the bush is good mantra, so if your called and idiot there is a reason for it.

While I agree Bush is not a conservative, he is no liberal. how absurd. Liberals founded this country (obviously) and Bush hates free speech, hates free exercise of religion, hates the geneva convention, hates the environment, hates black people (or just acts like it), shifted the tax burden from the wealthy to the poor, shifted the country's wealth dramatically to the wealthy, started a war based on lies.... there's nothing liberal about this man.
The answerer above me tries to pretend that liberal equals 'without character.' It doesn't not. Bush clearly is without character, but that's not what liberal means.

The trouble is, is that its very difficult to reason with unreasonable people.
A debate is supposed to be a frank exchange of views, where one party LISTENS to the other. As you well know this almost never happens.
Have you ever tried to debate (religion) with christians?? Clearly this is impossible because they believe, blindly, in the undemonstrable (not sure if thats a word, but you know what I mean). You just have to look at some of violently racist and nationalistic comments expounded on this site.

Obviously, it's just been proven that a lot of liberals have won some debates. After all, we liberals have said time and time again that there was no connection between Saddam Hussein and the 9/11 attacks, and now it's been officially announced by both Democratic and Republican members of Congress.

I'm tired of hearing the phrase "politically correct". The current P.C. is conservatism, it changes with the administration. I can debate, not argue, my position with anyone. Sometimes i "win" sometimes not. Neither will be convinced as each has their own beliefs. I believe we should not start wars, All our efforts should have gone to finding Bin Laden, not Sadaam. I believe we should help those less fortunate. I believe we need to conserve the planet on which we live. This leads me to my next question. I'm posting it now. "What do conservatives conserve?

You can't count that high. I'm sure you are the typical tough guy when you are surrounded by your cronies. Liberals on the other hand will stand tall and fight when they are outnumbered because they truly believe in free speech and not repeating the same bullsh*t day in day out like you do. God forbid you ever have an original thought and not follow your so-called leaders without questioning them. Grow some b*lls and question authority then you can truly experience the beauty of freedom.
