As if there is any doubt Federer is by far the best player right now, the only Slam event that eludes him is the French Open and he made a good run at it this year.

Obviously, Roger Federer is unbeatable in hard court of Flushing Meadows. His three US Open in successive three years tantamount enough for the world number one to be called the Best Tennis Player!
There maybe a Federer fatigue to tennis die-hards.
But he's still the man to beat.
Time will tell, he'll be emulated by even the recorholders like Agassi, Connors....not only by the "Youngsters" who have beaten him lately...like Nadal, Gasquet, Murray...
And time will tell, he's the greatest tennis player of all time.

Roger on the hardcourt (fast hardcourt such as US open) by far. He has super first and second serves that almost reach the exact same heights in every toss, so the opponents couldn't read it. He has short swing return, which limited Andy to 7 aces yesterday. He has vicious forehand that can spin or flatten the ball inside out, cross court, or straight power shot. he has one handed backhand (like Sampras) that is as powerful as anyone's two-handed back hand. His volley is as good, if not better, than Stefan Edberg or Boris Becker. He is also a master of the forehand drop shot and back hand slides.
More importantly, he is able to reach a higher level when pushed to the edge (like the third set yesterday). And his coolness, is yet another weapon to piss off the oponents. That's what I like him the most - his attitude torward the opponent (YOU JUST CAN'T BEAT ME). Anyhow, on Clay court, he is improving as well. He lost to Nadal, but not by much.
However, I do like one person more that is Marat Safin. If Safin haven't had the injury problem, he will be the "real rival" to Roger. But the injuries really killed that guy and his opportinuty to shine. The only thing Safin is not that good should be his volley. That's why he plays horribly on grass. Anyhow, his epic 5-set win over Roger in the Aussie 2005 was the best match I have ever seen. He then went on to win a well-deserved second GS final.
Nadal on Clay is unbeatable for now, even though Federer was close. Nadal's wicked kick spin is way too much for many people. By serving power, Andy is second to none. However, in ground stroke strength, Nadal is second to none. The scary thing is, just like Roger was close to win the French, Nadal reached Quarters in US and Finals in Wimbeldon.

Federer is by far the best player in the world right now. As soon as he wins the French Open, he should be considered one of the best, if not the best, player ever.

Of all time? Probably Rocket Rod Laver - look up the stats, pretty impressive and he wasn't allowed to compete for some of the majors during his prime due to his "professional status". His major record would far exceed Sampras's if not for that. Obviously, today Federer is head-and-shoulders above the rest. Roddick played fabulous tennis in the middle of the US Open finals and that just allowed him to stay even for awhile.
