To Mark: I didn't say - hey, everybody, give me a negative answer! All answers are accepted with pleasure, but my work is concentrated mainly on the arguments against theatre. However positive answers are important too - but I know that there will always be lots of them. By the way I'm for the existence of theatres with all my heart.

You need more negative answers? OK... Here Goes...
I can't stand surveys that throw out all the honest and sincere answers, and only use the answers that the person conducting the survey wants to use in support of their own extremely biased position.

Against.
The theater is an outdated concept. It is too expensive to put a show on Broadway or the West End. It does not allow access to those who would enjoy the show but can not afford to see them in that form.
We need to improve the theater for those who want it to continue. However, without modification, there is no place for the modern play or musical writer to play on the major stages. It is just too risky an investment for the money makers.
People have been saying the theatre will die for years, but it is closer to dead than it has been in years with $300.00 tickets!

Theater allows for the viewer to interpret the work in the raw. Without editing and camera tricks, angles, etc. Most plays are written with stage direction in mind so the writer knows exactly what his character is doing as well as saying, and this sometimes has a bearing on the underlying meaning of the work.

yes we need live theatres today, a movie is a visual thrill, but a play you can feel in a much deeper level. you actually feel a part of the experience............thats why all the leading film stars are drawn back to broadway time and again. plus for actors there's no better way to learn the craft than from that connection to a live audience, you cant edit stage work you're either good or your not.

It is ridiculous to take a stance for or against an artform. I am assuming that you are talking about the performing arts and LIVE theatre. We need as many forms of entertainment possible, especially those that don't require buttons and a television set. FOR them, of course.

I am for the existence of theaters because they put on plays that tell us important lessons about life, and can provide entertainment that enriches our lives. Theaters have been around for thousands of years, and I hope they will be around for thousands more.
