Some people need less than the 'normal' 8 hours sleep. Possibly nothing long term will happen with you. Insomnia, on the other hand, eventually can lead to insanity. If you're having problems sleeping or staying asleep, see your doctor.

I saw this documentary on CNN (Quest). They stated that just like work, if you do not complete your work on a daily basis you get a back log. So if you do not sleep for 8 hours as required you get a back log of sleep. In the long run you are more prone to get Alzheimer, stroke, high level of stress that can bring high blood pressure and in some worse cases brain tumor. It is highly recommended that sleep 8 hours a day. If not possible during the weekend you can clear the back log

Some people only need a few hours of sleep every night. However, if you are extremely busy and active this will increase stress levels and can effect your physical health.
I use to run on only 5 hours of sleep a night and it resulted in multiple headaches, extremely high stress and mood swings, many acne breakouts, and I was very touchy with people.
I never thought this was caused by my sleep habits, but the more sleep I got, those symptoms went away!
Good luck!

Nothing, you don't need 8 hours of sleep. I have survived on 4 to 6 hours of sleep for years.

I have been getting this little sleep since High School and I am in my mid 30's. With the exception of my lazy eyes, I don't feel any really bad negative effects. The eye twitching usually stops around lunch time and the 'visions' have been going away.

How do you feel when you wake up, some people only need this much sleep, I think if more sleep is the norm than it would probably lower your resistance to certain sickness and make you not as clear thinking.

A doctor will probably tell you
As long as you are waking feeling rested, then that is all your body requires. However, if you are finding it difficult to stay focused and waking up feeling tired then you are suffering a form of insomnia. Talk to your doctor. For further reading

Gradually you will be seriously sleep deprived and other ailments will start from the lack of appropriate rest.
