My girlfriend started the depo shot right after she had our first child in March. Since then she has gotten 1 period (she is confirmed not pregnant) and totally lost her sex drive. I would like to know have anyone else experience these symptoms or are these regular symptoms after the depo shot?

They are normal symptoms of the shot. The sex drive should come back after a couple doses(probably one or 2 more)
The missed periods could last the entire time she is on the shot. I was on it off and on for 6 years(stopping twice to get pregnant) and the problems weren't severe enough to quit taking it
If she continues to have problems she should talk to the Dr. about a different method.

I was on the shot for 5 years. I stopped getting them May of last year and I being trying to have a baby ever since. Took me a year to get pregnant, I'm due sometime in January. I had no periods at all for 5 years, bad headaches, hair came out, legs hurted bad sometimes, bone ached very bad some day I barely could get up. The longer u are on it the longer it is going to take to wear off. I would never take any type of birth control again, they are too risky. But unlike her I wanted sex all the time, every single day

Regular symptoms. I put on almost 40 lbs when I was on depo, as well, and it took almost 4 years before I started having normal periods after stopping it, and I was on it for 3/4th of a year.

I was on depo for 18 mos and it drove me crazy. It caused paranoia, headaches, bloating, weight gain, severe mental irritation, unexplained and unwarranted outburst of anger, hair loss, and all kinds of other problems. I think you might ask your gf to try a pill or something. All that period blood she is not expelling each month is trapped inside of her. That doesn't seem healthy to me and not worth the convenience of not having a period. We are women. If we have functioning female parts, we are supposed to have a period, period. And no, I didn't really feel sexual because I was angry all the time and felt like sh it. 2 years post and I feel normal again. It took nearly a year to get it out of my system. Drs do not and will not tell you everything about depo. It is very dangerous.

DEPO is horrible I would tell her to get off of it and try something else. I only had the shot once and it took me about a year to get back to normal. This stuff should be illegal! But to answer your question yes those symptoms are normal for DEPO.

I stopped getting a period all together and had severe mood swings. Although after 2 straight years of being on it and getting the shot on schedule I got pregnant anyway. I think I may be a textbook study because of it. So be careful!

I must tell you I was also on it and then I changed to the pill because I picked up weight hectically.

When discussing it with the sister at the local clinic she said to me that DEPO is the worst injection to be on. Apparently it can make you infertile.

There are other options.

Yes. And it's gonna be that way for a long time even after she stops taking it. I wish I would have never gotten on it.
