I am beginning to hate television. There used to be a well defined "family hour" where it was programming that would be ok for the whole family to watch. It seems that there is no "family hour" anymore. Everytime I look up at the tv, there are half naked people, suggestive dialogue and horrific images of real life. Most days, I just turn off the television and I wouldn't mind turning it off for good!
I don't really watch much anymore, even when the tv is on. It's just too unpredictable.
My husband and I have decided that we are going to institute a family night when our daughter is a little older. We're going to make popcorn and sit around in our pajamas and watch Disney movies or some such. We're going to make our own family hour!
Unfortunately, I don't think there's much that can be done to change it. The stuff that we would rather not watch is, sadly, what sells. We do have that option that has been available to people for as long as there has been television... turn the thing off. It's really the only thing we can do.

Wow!!!!! You took the words right out of my mouth!
But...I don't think it will ever be changed. These programs are so hyped up and the audiences seem to crave this garbage.
I don't subscribe to anything. I just have videos and DVD's. If there are television shows I like...I wait for them to come out and buy them and watch them at my leisure.
With all the channels they offer the public these days...there has been none that I want to watch anymore. Family shows are bordering on sex and degradation, plus they're using the formats from the 60's & 70's, but just updating them to the here and now.

I am with you - I stopped watching TV almost altogether, especially the sitcoms because you never knew what was coming next. One night I mentioned how much sex laden stuff was on TV to my daughter (who disagreed), and we counted six sexual references in the opening two minutes of the show - before the first commercials.
Apparently it has descended into a contest of how far they go into debased and offensive material. Because for many, this is what they want to see and be stimulated by - unfortunately much of the time it is kid's who have become desensitized.
But unless they get hit where it counts - meaning we stop watching and money support goes away - it appears as though it will continue.
Sad that good writing has all but gone away.

Well I just turned 29 so I'm not young but I'm not old either and fully agree with youTV and movies have turned to complete crap. I honestly wouldn't want to watch TV with my kids if I had them because it's all about sex. Reality TV is a bunch of garbadge I have no interest in and everything else is just one sexual inuendo after another or about 9-11. I kind of feel bad for kids today the world now is so bad and TV just makes it worse. There is no way to change it, this is how society has become a bunch of violence obessed sex freaks. So to answer your question, yeah I agree.

it's disgusting
and seems to be so well hidden wth subleminal messages
but when you break it all down you can see it for yourself
a bunch of corrupt networks bringing us their politically correct crap for all to see
even the news isn't fit too watch its all so bias
disney is also corrupt...eg.. they are now teaching us that the illuminati and freemasons are some kind of religious heros in the blockbuster hit...national treasure
the davinci code is in the same arena teaching the occult in a sly way
remember the good ole days when Lucy and Ricky slept in different beds
it all boils down to one thing...money the root of all evil
and slowly but surely we are all becoming desensitized

I only watch Boomerang and other cartoon channels. I pay for cable because I can't stand regular TV. I do like Forensic files, but I only watch it when the kids aren't in the room. They do have their own tvs, but it is dvd only in their rooms
