It tells me to log on to a registry website and scan my registry. How can I block them? I assume it is a scam of some sort or a virus? Anyone know?

That sounds like a scam.

You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.

This double whammy will help keep you safe and running faster

Then check your anti-virus status and run a full scan.

Sounds very dodgy, definately. Its not legit.

Go to www.download.com (cnet) and download 'spybot search and destroy' and 'registry mechanic'. Both very good and i've used them for 18 months. Spyware doctor is good too, but you have to pay a little for that. Better to have a few different programs rather than one.
When you download spybot, you need to go into the settings and check that no items are in the ignore list. You'll see what i mean when you get there.

Windows also do their own free program, called windows defender, which has been useful to me a few times. Thats from the Microsoft website

Thats it! By the way, Norton are doing a free 90 day trial from their website (symantec) of their anti-virus program, it might be worth downloading that while you're at it!

This is the MSblaster Adware/trojan. pops up and says you have 55 critical errors in your registry go to msregscan.com and patch installer.info or something near :) My mother has had it several times now. Get a decent virus and spyware scan. Also note that this trojan is a active ie, it is being monitored. Some on messed with various setting on the computer and removed several files too.

It certainly sounds like it COULD be or at the very least a trojan trying to get you to buy some commercial software that will claim to elimate/get rid of it for you.

I recently had problems with one trojan called VirusBurst (only one name it's known by) so I'd suggest getting/running 3 programs, all of which are good AND free and easy to install and use.

1) SpyBot

2) Awaware

3) Ewido

Do a Google or Yahoo search and you can find them. Also make sure you have a good anti-virus program running and let it do a FULL scan ... AVG is a very good free one, to name but one.

If you need more help, can you let us know the precise error message that you are getting please? That would be very useful and good luck.

You have an adware program on your computer. It tries to get you to go to their site and do a scan. It will then put additional malware on your computer and then try to sell you programs to fix and remove them.
The programs are bogus and won't remove anything.

Go here and follow the procedure and use the programs she lists. Set them up according to her instructions and this should get removed..

i think i've had those problems before... try downloading spyware doctor or lavasoft ad-aware se personal (which is free). make sure to update them. ; )

and it's better to scan your computer in safe mode... just press f8 before windows starts. ^_^
