I mean for PC. Not talking about big servers and machines like CRAY XMP etc.

Anything else would not run your programs. Just learn how to manage your Windows, so it is running in good shape.

You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.

This double whammy will help keep you safe and running faster

Keep your anti-virus up to date and run scans regularly.

You should have 512MB of RAM or more. Check your system at http://www.coastmemory.com

From RUN, use MSCONFIG and turn off unneeded Startup programs.

'Better' is a subjective term. Better in what way? I haven't had any significant problems with Windows in 10 years, using. 5 different versions. So it's not 'perfect' -- just try making 45+ million lines of code work together perfectly in every instance, while a few hundred thousand hackers are out there trying to sabotage you.

At the risk of sounding like a wise guy, maybe you just haven't learned how to use it properly. I seriously recommend taking some OS and software apps classes at your local community college or high school.

You're going to get a lot of answers telling you to get a Mac or use Linux. Mac is OK, but it feels clunkier to me. That too, is mostly subjective. If you can use Linux well, you can learn to be a programmer/developer for Microsoft, help design a 'better' OS, and make good bucks in the bargain.

excuse me guys, you cannot say MS Windows is for novice. It takes more than one step to do one single thing. If you say MAC is for novice, I can definitely agree.

Now, if you need another OS, then it all depends on you. Linux or unix are good as servers and I wouldn't recommend them for personal use not because they suck, it is just that they are still in their way to be used easily in a personal PC.

If you dont have a problem with money, then you either buy a fully upgraded MS Windows or buy a mac. If money is an issue to you, then just stick to windows and you have no other good choice in the time being.

hello

for the next 20 years.. i will definitely say no
[ dont talk about OS wars linux vs windows ]
__
anybody cannot compare cars with ships or planes
like that Windows will be serving best for End-users or novice..

he may not have need to know how to debug or compile or any such..
[[
a little challenge...
Win32 API is still best and making windows in profits
no geeks can challenge that...
similarly MACs , they feared that they would be lost under motorola and switched to Intel's X86

So always Windows will remain user friendly and ever
serving end-user market, and only microsoft can do that upto 2020 i guess

With the recent introduction and use of Intel processors in Apple machines it won't be long before you can get a version of the Macintosh OS for your PC.
