Alternative and complimentary therapies, such as homeopathy, are viable healing tools. Unfortunately, many people do not explore these routes until allopathic measures have failed them. I was one of those. After experiencing the difference between antibiotic therapies and herbal and homeopathic therapies, I was convinced. Herbal therapies took care of an upper respiratory infection that six different antibiotics failed to treat successfully. I have used my time since then to become educated and skilled in ACM and am working to develop a referral network in Northwest Ohio.
While preparing for a lecture on ACM, I ran across the following information: Homeopathy is much more popular in Europe and India than in the United States. A study exploring the use of complimentary medicine found the following percentages of various countries’ population to be using homeopathy for some of their health needs (data from 1985-1992): Belgium 56%, Denmark 28%, France 32%, Netherlands 31%, Sweden 15%, UK 16%, and USA 3%. In India, 10% of the population use homeopathy exclusively for their medical treatment. (Wikipedia)
The World Health Organization also even has a list of conditions it feels acupuncture can treat:
Upper Respiratory Tract: Acute Sinusitis, Acute Rhinitis, Common Cold, Acute tonsillitis. Respiratory System: Acute Bronchitis, Bronchial Asthma. Disorders of the Eye: Acute Conjunctivitis, Central Retinits, Myopia (in children), Cataract (without complications). Disorders of the mouth: Toothache (post extraction pain), Gingivitis, Acute and Chronic pharyngitis. Gastro-intestinal Disorders: Spasm of the Oesophagus and Cardia, Hiccough, Gastroptosis, Acute and Chronic Gastritis, Gastric Hyperacidity, Chronic Duodenal Ulcer, Acute and Chronic Colitis, Acute Bacilliary Dysentery, Constipation, Diarrhea, Paralytic ileus. Neurological and Musculo-skeletal Disorders: Headache and Migraine, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Facial Palsy, Pareses Following a Stroke, Peripheral Neuropathies, Sequelae Poliomyelitis, Meniere's Disease, Neurogenic Bladder Dysfunction, Nocturnal Enuresis, Intercostal Neuralgia, Cervicobrachial Syndrome, "Frozen Shoulder", "Tennis Elbow", Sciatica, Low Back Pain, Osteoarthritis. (The College of Acupuncture and Therapeutics)
As people begin to take responsibility for their own well being, the use of ACM will continue to increase. We are becoming increasingly tired of masking symptoms of imbalances and are looking for ways to bring the body back into balance without the use of therapies wherein the "cure" is worse than the "disease."

You should check this sciatica natural treatment http://cure-sciatica.info
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica. Try a reputable chiropractor ASAP!

I am assuming you are asking why someone would choose homeopathic remedies? Why not? It is a personal choice. There are many reports of people who have tried orthodox medicine and treatments who dont get positive results and who have then tried homeopathic ones and found an improvement. I am not a great believer in homeopathy personally as I feel that the active ingredients often are in such small quantities and in tinctures (alcohol). Possibly the alcohol is responsible for many people feeling better!!!!!?? Guess its a personal choice. I would feel safer with traditional chinese medicine and herbal medicine as opposed to seeing an actual homeopath!

I'm about as open minded as you can get with alt medicine but I can't say I've ever seen it do anything with myself or family. I know people who swear it has worked wonders though, and I do often see the negative effects of standard medicine, and the twisted logic behind many medical prescriptions - a lot of the Drs. thinking goes along the lines of "how can I keep this person from suing me" rather than what is really best for them. (Or more sinisterly - How can I make the most money off of them).

Benefits of Homeopathy
Homeopathy is safe. Unlike other medicines, homeopathic medicines usually do not have any side effects. Their ability to cause structural damage is Nil. The reason for this is that homeopathic medicines act by stimulating the body's own defense mechanism and healing powers. They do not have any chemical action, so they do not have the potential to cause any sustained damage. The doses are given in sub-physiological quantities. So they can be given to children and adults alike without worrying about the dosage. Safe for every one.
Homeopathic medicines are very effective - in both acute and chronic conditions. Homeopathy in fact, is the only system of medicine which offers curative treatment (not palliative) to a large number of chronic ailments which have been labeled as 'incurable' by other schools of medicine. In acute ailments also, homeopathic remedies, if selected properly, give results faster then any other systems of medicine.
Homeopathic medicines are easy to administer. Homeopathic medicines are usually dispensed as sweet sugar pills, which are very easy to take. Due to this reason, children readily agree to take homeopathic remedies.
Homeopathic treatment is cheap. Homeopathic medicines are usually much cheaper than comparable allopathic and ayurvedic drugs. And also there is little stress on costly diagnostic procedures as homeopaths rely on the symptoms to find the right medicine for a person. So the overall cost of treatment is very little. Still this may not appear so to many people in western countries as homeopathic treatment is usually not covered by insurance companies. But that's myopic vision. One has to think of long-term gains. Under proper homeopathic treatment not only the person's immediate complaints improve, but also his/her susceptibility to disease decreases as there is a general improvement in health. So in the long run, there is better health, less medical consultations and the cumulative cost is very low. Even otherwise, hasn't some wise man said .."Health is the real Wealth"?
Homeopathy considers the complaints of a patient in totality. It views a person as a whole, as an integrated entity, and not as a mere collection of body parts. So it treats the person as a whole too. Thus one does not have to visit ten different 'specialists' for his/her ten different body parts. After all our body is more than a collection of parts! So homeopathy saves your time, money and health at the same time.

Because we prefer to trust something based on a concept we can get our heads around - such as "take a tiny amount of the problem to get cured" - than one we can't, such as angiotension-converting enzyme inhibitors - even if the latter works and the former doesn't.
Because purveyors of "alternative medicines" aim their advertising budgets at the general public, whereas mainstream medical companies aim them at the medical profession.
Because we can choose and prescribe them for ourselves without having to visit a doctor, and maybe be told something we don't want to hear like "lose weight" or "drink less" or "smoke less".
Because the placebo effect is quite powerful - and most minor maladies pass in a few days anyway - so any sufficiently convincing medicine "works" to a decent degree when taken for a short period.
And because, frankly, sometimes what the medical community gives us doesn't do us that much more good.

I never believed in that mumbo jumbo and thought it was a waste of time and modern medicine would be far more advanced beyond a herbal based medicines.
How wrong I was, I got glandular fever and was incredibly ill with it affecting my liver and my blood and the glands in by throat making it very hard to breath. I had it for 6 months and the doctor could perscribe nothing apart from ibuprofin to bring the swelling down in my throat. I felt like I was on deaths door and was willing to try pretty much anything. Thats how I came to get recomended to a NHS homeopathic doctor, she gave me a few pills i think one was arcanite and something else and whitin 2 days I could breath again. Spookey stuff.
I just dont believe that it was a coincidence. Anyway I am perfect now but if anything ever happened that the doctor could not help with I would see a homeopathic doctor.

Ask your doctor about an exercise routine. Regular exercise, such as walking three times a week, may reduce neuropathy pain, improve your muscle strength and help control blood sugar levels. Gentle routines such as yoga and tai chi might also help.
