The president earns $400,000. In addition, he gets free housing, meals, service staff, bodyguards and a vast array of other nice-to-have things. On the other hand, presidents work very long hours and are responsible for a great deal. In almost every presidency, the job has worn the president down after four continuous years of decision making. After eight years, it's exhausting. And they are in the spotlight every minute, with people just waiting to pick apart every move and statement.
And I agree that far too many celebrities make far too much money. They certainly deserve a fair salary and excellent medical care in the event of injury. But salaries in some sports (baseball and basketball, for example) are way out of control.

The President does indeed earn only a modest sum, when compared to other important positions in business, sports and entertainment. This means that a President must have his own source of income or assets. But the President does have access to many services that are covered. Secret Service, White House staff and so many other government services.
Nobody makes more money than the President in Government service. So high ranking judges, senators, congressmen all make even less. At the state level, your Governor, state senators and such make even less. So you see, people in government must have other sources of income. This makes an elected position out of reach to people who are poor. So unless they do some other work on the side, they can't go up into high ranking politics.
Did you know that some College Basketball coaches at public universities also make LESS than their governor? But the coaches at private universities can make MUCH MORE? This makes it difficult for public and state universities to get top notch coaches.

Only ?
I guess when you consider the position more or less CEO of America but Iam not used to only and 100,000 in the same sentence -
You have to remember there are a lot of perks in this - little ones big ones etc
I am sure he doesn't have a lot of meal exspenses travel exspenses and Iam sure they let him loose with the "company credit card" etc.
Besides the job will look good on his resume and he is making contacts assuming he doesn't blow up the contacts he makes that could be useful -
The salary might be a straight forward 100 G's but there is more to it -

That would be the President's federal salary, which is probably around $250,000. That is not his only source of income. There are investments in all of the major corporations (oil, pharmaceuticals, defense contractors, etc.) and generations of family money. Presidents don't come into the job poor.

This is true, but you must remember the purchasing power of the US dollar is quite high. Also he has a lot of perks - the White House, Air Force One, etc. Also his family usually has other business interests; remember, he can only be president for two terms, max.

400,000 for the start..
but remember why the aim for the position that only gives them 400,000...its not the salary that they are aiming for but the benifits that they would have once they seat as the president...remember the expense that they have during the election...do you think this salary can pay all of those expense that they have..cors not..they are gaining more than there salary once they have that position..

Yep, that is correct. The pay used to be $100,000 per year plus another $100,000 allowance for travel and things of that sort.
The salary was raised to $200,000 with a $200,000 allowance a few years ago.

I know that once was the rate they received I am not sure if it has gone up, but they also received lots and lots of perks, plus mostly all of them are very wealthy and being in office also gives them a chance to only increase their wealth.
