For one thing, women in the US were granted the right to vote after WWI. Since then, women have done just about every job available, from scientist to military aircraft pilot. Socially, it is now acceptable for women to work and have children, work and not have children, stay single for as long as they want.

I definitely agree that women's lives have changed remarkably since WWI.

During the war years woman had to go into the workplaces to keep the country running as the men were all away. Naturally this gave them a taste of life outside the household. Not to mention that war makes alot of widows. Women had to become more financially independent to survive and raise their children.
I have this theory that its lucky so many girls got pregnant to soldiers that may not have returned as they would have keep the healthy strong genes of the race going.

on the surface of things they have changed beyond recognition but actually a lot has stayed the same; ie. just becuase women have jobs now does not mean that a lot of the old stereotypes do not exist and arent supported daily by the media. I dislike it when ppl think that employment changes offer the solution to the womens movement.
