I think John, Paul, George and Ringo together in a group were the best in the world from first to last.
Each of them once outside seemed to try to be as different as possible from what they wer- but they couldn't help having 2 things in common-
1,Being a Beatle forever inspite of having broken up
2.Sounding kind of tired and burnt out - there was something missing even in the best of their post-Beatle songs
Those 4 Beatles were just magic together- the key word here is together.
When they came together in 1994 for "Free as a bird" ..WOW!
The magic came to work again.I think "Free as a bird" is just as good as any of their 1962-70 songs.
The 4 Beatles together= Magic

They are all better together, but each of them had their own thing. I personally love Paul McCartney and George Harrison's solo stuff. They all are good in their own right, but you're pretty much right, together they were magic.

Free as a Bird was written by John Lennon before he died, and then recorded by the 3 surviving Beatles in 1994.

I totally disagree with you that none of them matched their success after the breakup. Paul McCartney did. In fact, The Wings, Paul McCartney's band after leaving the Beatles, had more number 1 hits and more success than the Beatles did at that time. His solo work is unquestioned. Young people today don't know about it--they only know of the Beatles and then whatever junk they play on MTV today. I suggest you do some research into Paul McCartney's career.

I'm with Becky. Paul and George were good on their own, but to compare them with the synergy they enjoyed as a group would be silly.

All were talented in their own rights, but together they were a force that changed popular music. Not much beats a Lennon-McCartney tune.

Put it this way. They all had talents of one sort or another. They all had their own styles of making music as well. Individually and collectively there is a warehouse of talent in all of them as well too!

they broke up because they thought they were better out than in....it took awhile but it happened...i think out because all four members still carried out good music careers without each other
