Some do, many don't. But be careful, the salaries are not as big as they are rumoured. Most of their compensation is in bonuses. But it must be said that the base salary level is a lot higher than the national average, in many caes going to people not above average in skill or intelligence. The reason is that companies need to hire and unless they pay market rates, they won't be hiring people who they can then decide are not good enough. Even when traders make a lot of money for their firm, often it is the context of a rising market, when they expect huge bonuses, but are not willing to take a cut in comp when they lose big in a down market. As the saying goes, "In a stiff wind, even turkeys can fly". Nevertheless, there are some traders - a distinct minority - who do make good money and give their employer a return on his capital pretty consistently. These guys now all gravitate to hedge funds, where the money is even greater.

This is the job they trained to do, its very stressful and yes I think the salaries are hard earned and deserved. I do however have a problem with the Bonus that they get. All that money that the company pays out could easily help 3rd world countries or charities. I mean it's not like they need the money with the salaries that they have.

Yes, they do. They earn enormous amounts of money for the companies they work for in a very stressful environment, and they burn out young. Doesn't stop the majority being arrogant b******s though - many pubs in London refuse the "suits" entry.
