I'm trying to remove this without calling in a locksmith.

I have had some sucess with a dental pick. It depends on the key profile at the point of fialure though.

Try the tweezers and dental picks, if that doesnt work take the small tweezers and put some JB weld on the inside of the the teeth / jam it on the key and leave it for 24 hours then yank the sucker out with a tow rope. Don't get it all over the place or you'll pull the whole lock apart

have you tried a pair of needle nose pliers? If there is anything left to grab- these usually do the trick.

If not- you'll be removing the lock

with a very thin object grab the key and pull, with a twee-zers works good.

get the whole lock changed,better still get a new door.
