I work at a VA Hospital and help veterans. Why is it that probably over 80% of the physicians/doctors that work in the VA's across the country are of mid-eastern descent? Many veterans won't come here for treatment because they were over seas fighting these people and now they are back home and have them caring for them as thier doctor. Why are there so many doctors that work in the VA's that are of mid-eastern culture?

My Father was an American Dr. at the VA hospital for 39 years,(RIP Dad)..pure & simple his explanation was this,foreign Dr.s recieve better pay & opportunities in the USA...American Dr's are just as dedicated to their profession as foreigners in my opinion..but I am a lil' biased..=)

Because if your a doctor then you will never find it difficult to find employment, so just like anyone else, you want to work whever pays the best. That's the private sector, and so there are holes of job vacancies about to fill. All the American doctors have already got jobs and the demand for job applicants is greater than the output colleges provide. Doctors are brought in from other countries, as the situation is similar in all civilised nations with stable governments, who also bring in other foreign doctors

it could have something to do with who's willing not to make the BIG bucks and work for these people. I understand where your coming from but I also have a feeling a lot of "American" doctors are more interested in something that will benefit themselves financially above anything else...not ALL but you're the one asking.

This question is a bit odd, but why don't you do yourself a favor and be respectful to them and just ask them yourself. I am sure that the Doctors are kind people and easy to speak with. Go for it! What can you loose!

Americans are not as determined to be educated and as determined to excel as people from other cultures are. We live in a society where those who are poor can enjoy most of the same amenities and those who are rich. In many middle eastern cultures, those who do not excel become slaves.
So while we break our arms patting ourselves on the back for the sake that we are americans, people from other cultures are doing much better than us when it comes to education and accomplishments.

It's not just in the VA setting .... it's everywhere. Almost weekly there's a new ad in the newspapers in Indiana announcing the new Dr. Abslbhudullahd,d.aldjkfldjfldjfkldjdljfd.
It's because our colleges are giving preference and free rides to alot of these folks instead of our own US citizens, thus the medical schools are churning out MDs who are foreign, rather than US folks.

Because they will work for less money than American doctors, who only want the best paid jobs in private practice & lucrative surgery.

Because they are a lot more dedicated to succeeding than home-grown people.
You can't blame the doctors, you should blame your government.
