In all episodes Tom is chasing Jerry to catch him. In some he wants to eat him , or present him to his girlfriend, or wants to get even with him or just wants to get rid of him.

cuz Tom's a cat and Jerry's a mouse? and that's what they are suppost to do.
And in the show the grown up keeps telling Tom if he doesn't get rid of that mouse she is gonna beat him with that scary broom of hers.
