Its about the question that said do you get annoyed when you ring a company and they dont speak english?
Is this in England? I live in Spain and have done most of my life, I know if you ring here, its hard to get someone to speak English, but we are in Spain (still gets very annoying) I speak fluent spanish anyway. But are you telling me that if you ring an english comapny in ENGLAND there is a chance you get someone that doesnt speak English????????? something vey wrong here. Can somone explain to me the logical meaning in this. I know england is loosing its English culture due to people from other countrys basicly taking over but I reckon this is going way to far. VERY SAD! I would never moov back to my country, as it is not English anymore... it has been ruined. STRESS! :\

It because workers in India and other countries are cheaper. It is completely annoying and I end up putting the telephone down as constantly having to spell every word I say is frustrating plus having a Scots accent doesn't really help the situation.
Although if you live in Spain what else do you expect but a Spanish accent - do you think the whole world speaks English?

Basically, yes. Many English companies have call centres in India so you ring a number for an insurance quote for example and you get put through to India where someone will talk to you. The problem of course is that given the distance and the difference in accents, it can be hard to understand them - which leads to frustrations.

It's not that the people on the other end of the phone don't speak English, it's just that they speak English with an accent (usually Indian given most outsourcing goes to India) and certain sectors of the UK population are irate about this. It's just as irritating for me as a Scot to get someone with a thick Welsh / cockney / Geordie accent, and it will be the same for them talking to me.

Happens all the time in America. That's why there is such a strong debate over illegal immigration and outsourcing. In my own company there is an internal number we call for assistance in the field, it used to be a local number, then it went to Canada now it's going to the Caribbean. I'm sure it saves the company a lot of money, but trying to learn a new accent is frustrating.

Unfortunately people in English call centres are being put out of work and call centres moved to India etc or foreign workers are being employed who don't speak a lot of English just for the companies to save a few quid.
England is losing its identity ;0(

Yes unfortunately a lot of call centres have been been moved to India or Hong Kong, the time you will spend on the phone will double or triple because you are both trying to work out what each other is saying.....and they pretend their name is William or Karen, they are also trained each day for 15 minutes before they start on whats been happening in Eastenders, Coronation St and football matches so they can converse easily, ha!

I'm originally from England but moved to Barcelona 6 years ago - haven't looked back since, although it's fun to visit the UK every once in a while I certainly won't be moving back in a hurry
I didn't move because of the outsourced phone centres though, it was because i just met a great bunch of guys and we formed a band - the c'mons

because of outsourcing of customer service to european countries and to India, whenever you call a big company (like airlines, computers mfrs.) you will get people helping you that are from other countries and not always have the best English, or English that is different from American english & it is often frustrating and miscommunication results in more problems (but maybe the companies like this because it means you are not going to get any refunds)

It happens in the US all the time. It's called out sourcing! They can pay people in other countries less money so they do! God bless the people answering the phones they try but we are on different planets. You find yourself trying to explain a complicated problem in slow easy terms and we are both still lost!!

capital one is the worst, can never understand a word they are saying. but what annoys me is when i was in hospital lately for a minor op, there was a nurse there who was foreign, i have nothing against this but she could hardly understand me and i couldnt understand her. i was asking for assistance to go to the toilet and she just didnt understand. surely they should be able to speak our language. yes she was probably very good at her job but they dont seem to care about the communication skills. i also get a lot of sales calls and i cant understand most of the people there either.
