though zidane got the golden ball, the best player of the world cup was italy's captain fabio cannavaro because italy comceded just 2 goals in the world cup and both were contoversial ones.cannavaroconceded just one foul in the ehole world cup and there was no way anyone could go past him. zidane played like a master only after the quarter finals but cannavaro played like a gem in the whole tournament. again if goals count miroslav klose was the best

Italian players were the best. For goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon was the best. But Fabio Cannavaro remains the best captain, the best defender and the best player of this World Cup.
