Why is photosynthesis such a silly word that messes with my brain?

photosynthesis is a process which takes place in presence of sunlight.It is a chemical process. In this process oxygen is released as a by product and also carbondioxide is absorbed by the plants. It occurs in plants due to presence of a pigment called chlorophyll. It occurs in chlorophyll containing plants only.

Because biology terms can look very scary until you break them down into separate words.
Most terms describe what it is or what it does.
Photo = light
Synthesis= to build/ or to make
So photosynthesis tells us that something is made by using light.
It's a good way of taking the scaryness out of long words

You think that's bad there are much worse ones, I've always thought phosphofructokinase was a stupid name for an enzyme.
Generally though they mean what they say and actually make things easier. For example photosynthesis - photo meaning light synthesis meaning making things, neatly describes what it means.

chloroplasts (green palisade cells of a plant, usually the leaves) + light + water (H2O) = PHOTOSYNTHESIS (energy pf plants) + CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) as a bi product
