Yes, Tasman was Dutch and the coastline reminded him of the coast of Holland (I don't know how, Australia being arid and Holland beind so green).

However, the First name for Australia was Terra Australis de Spiritis Sancti (or something like that) - the translation "South Land of the Holy Spirit". This name was given by Hartog. You can see that "Australia" derives from this and loosly means "southern".

Good to know that it belongs to the Hol;y Spirit In name.

The Dutch were the first Europeans to visit and map Australia, so, of course, they named it New Holland.
