Why have they been stopped to be seen smoking?

Yeah they stop the smoking scenes but leave in the dynamite, guns, beating, fighting, chasing, fire, ovens and other stuff in it. Come on for goodness sake, this is a cartoon duo that have been around forever. Kids see smoking everywhere, what have we got to do next.... blindfold our kids whenever they go out in case thay see anyone "smoking"????

The big problem is people think Tom and Jerry is for kids!

Originally made as a filler between films, T&J prior to the 1960's was aimed squarely at an adult audience.

Removing the 2 smoking scenes is only equaled in stupidity with the replacement of the guns in ET with radios.

In case you wonder, I'm very anti-smoking, and believe all tobacco products should be made illegal. But even I think this is truly stupid, especially since it was just a single complaint.

Its pathetic, its because they reckon it can make kids think smokings cool cuz tom and jerry do it!
Though they didn't bother thinking that kids see people smoking all the time, they aren't going to take any notice of tom and jerry doing it.

Yeah, it's ok for kids to hang around with the Grim Reaper, cause hate and discontent, mindless acts of violence and have zero respect but heaven forbid that a cartoon character smokes.

Apparently, some group has decided that having cartoon characters smoke entices youth to try it. I guess that we're not suppose to be parents anymore and talk with our kids and direct them.

Tom and Jerry was originally an adult cartoon shown at the movie theater. It was never intended for children when it was made.

Smoking is an addictive agent. People don't want thier kids smoking and cartoons smoking would set a bad example for children. Children learn what they see and hear fast.

because apparently it is glamourising smoking.... Young people will see Tom or Jerry lighting a stick of TNT with a cigar and think what a wonderful thing to do, I'm going to do the same, just without the mouse, cat and TNT!!!!!!!!

Probably a committee decided on the advice of a "think tank" following a series of group discussions by people who ain't got a clue.
