What is the best application to use for editing Java.
Also, is there a good application which can edit all or many programming languages?

Eclipse (Open Source)
HotJava (Sun Microsystems)
Both are free and Eclipse is used as the industry standard IDE for Java. You will get these IDE's in some computer magzines complementary CD's/DVD's. OR Download it for free from internet.
Latest version of Eclipse and HotJava can edit all industry standards languages like C, C++, Java, J2EE, JavaScript, perl, etc.

eclipse(other than just a java program , every thing that a project need can be done, for example use case diagrams, class diagrams etc)
editplus(in this u can do c++.,java ,html etc)

I like TextPad (https://www.textpad.com/). It's got syntax highlighting for tons of languages, and so I use it for Java, C#, C++, Fortran, Perl, Python, HTML, XML, VB, etc, etc.
