Hey - I just answered a similar question 5 minutes ago, but here goes...

I was at work - rumors started to spread that someone somewhere had crashed an airplane into a house.

Didn't react on it at first since I thought it was just a small plane falling into a hut somewhere, but soon I could hear people gathering in the meeting room where there was a telly.

I arrived in the room a few minutes before the second plane hit, and was shocked! It blew my mind - I remember thinking how anyone was capable of doing something like that...

I still sympathize strongly with all you people that lost someone that horrible day.

Isn't it strange how if you asked us what we were doing 5 years from now on a random date we probably wouldn't remember much, if anything. I remember 9/11 though, I was sitting in my room at university on my laptop when I heard a bit of a commotion coming from the comunal lounge. Being the nosy curious being that I am I went to investigate and found three of my flat mates(I can even remember their names) standing around the television with a look of aww about them. As I approached to see what was occuring and had resulted in these looks of such dismay I witnessed the second plane hitting its target, however, we had thought this was repeat footage of the first. I enquired as to what was going on and they all replied dumb-founded with " a plane's just flown into one of the twin towers in New York".
I'll never forget that day inn history, but most of all because of the reply one of my flat mates had said moments later. This was "Ah well, they're only dumb Americans". I didn't know what to say to her, I was still in shock and it only really dawned upon me what she had said later on that day, when the events of the day had sank in.
...I never thought of her in the same light ever again
She was half Iranian too!

I was at home. Stoned watching the late news (Australia) boyfriend next to me asleep. it was about 10.45pm. Then the reporter said 'Now to some Breaking News.' & the live picture came up on t.v. I couldnt believe what i was seeing! I didnt even know what the world trade centre was or even what a terrorist was. So i didnt suspect that this was on purpose. But i kept thinking how could they crash into a building by accident? Then i saw live on t.v the next plane hitting the other building & i just couldnt believe it. i thought who on earth would do something like this. i didnt know there were people on this earth that could have so much hate. The reporter was in shock & didnt know what to say. she just kept saying 'oh dear, oh dear' you could see she was really emotional. i just kept saying oh my god, oh my god!!! i just never thought anyone would do somthing like that. Especially in the united states. I guess i was very naive!

At home, in my ex-husband's house, in bed with a migraine.

I heard him talking on the phone, in another room. I heard him say, "So this means war, then."

Once he finished his call, he told me that the person he had been talking to had told him about the attacks.

We did not have a TV. I ran and grabbed my clock radio, and tuned to NPR. We listened as the second plane hit the World Trade Center.

I was filled with shock, disbelief, and horror. I cried.

I was at school, in my allied health class and my teacher told us about the planes, I'm not sure if this was due to a lack of information, or to prevent us from freaking out, but I do recall that he reassured us that it was not terrorist related. This was a very sad day, that I will always remember.

I was on the rooftop of tower 2. That's me in that picture that was going around the internet of the guy standing on top of the building while the plane was getting ready to hit the tower.

Sitting in front of the radio, getting ready to do laundry. Every single station was talking about some kind of 'attack on America' and I was like....whatever??! But soon I realized how serious it really was.
