Because the trading laws do not allow them to be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Currently 24 hour stores are restricted to Monday 8am to Saturday 10pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm.

Also stores over a certain size are not allowed to trade on Easter Sunday, Christmas and New Year Days.

There is currently a suggestion that the law will change but it will still require some closure.

Hope this helps.

Even if a store is open 24 hours per day, there may be circumstances where the store must be closed (weather, emergency, etc.).. It is for this reason, locks have been installed.

Doors without locks may be special order or something. It's probably easier to just have a door w/lock installed.

Those are not really locks on the doors, those are tiny little bitty drug dogs who are checking out your pockets as you walk in and out of the store.

Any store, particularly those with large volume of products, regularly conducts inventory. It is for this reason that a lock is provided because it has to be closed to give way for the inventory of goods.
