The word is pronounced "lithp". It's just one of those things, just like a nightjar is not a jar. The word comes from High German, but its origin seems unknown.

The word can stand for "list processing", in which case the question turns on how the "s" got into "list". According to Merriam Webster, the word comes from the same root as "lust" - from Old English "lust", meaning "desire". It makes me wonder what's desirable about a list of things to do or about a ship leaning to one side, or about programming in a language where (+ 2 2) equates to 4.

2. a word so formed.
3. Rhetoric. the use of imitative and naturally suggestive words for rhetorical effect.
