Ummm ask him if he watches Queer eye for the straight guy? If yes then we know why. If not get a can of maze.

The most possible reason can be that he wants to show off or he doesn't know what to talk with you so he picks up small topics like this and tries to talk about them.

This is his way of inadvertinly getting your attention with what he believes to be humorous.He lacks self confidence when involved with the different sex.
