1/ Out of a sense of sheer bravado.

2/ Because they are seeking the approbation of their peers.

3/ Because by causing disruption they don't have to pay any attention to what you are trying to teach. This also earns them 'kudos' with their classmates by providing them with a free ringside seat at a bust up.

Unfortunately teachers are in a no win situation.

There can be no effective teaching without effective discipline.

There can be no effective discipline without effective sanctions.

You have no EFFECTIVE sanctions since some idiot signed up to the 'Human Rights Charter,' which has been applied so rigorously by the 'do-gooders', and more importantly, by the THEORISTS in education that all scholars. pupils, students are immune from any restraint whatsoever.

Excellent teachers are leaving the profession in droves!

1. Lack of respect... for adults & other people in general.
2. A false sense of power from being bullies...
3. Peer pressure or a desire for acceptance...

In the "y" generation, it seems to me that those 3 things seem to be more prevalent then ever...
I'm not sure if has to do with a need to belong, parenting, a lack of discipline, or over crowded schools & classrooms... Maybe it is a combination.... Regardless, I do agree that many students in our public school system verbally abuse teaches or disrupt classrooms to the point where it can be impossible for any student to learn.

The reaction of the other students, they are treated as a hero and given high "status" with their peers.

too many kids today have no set of values or morals. That's why I don't miss teaching!

And maybe arrogant too.......
