Used coffee grounds act as a mulch, putting back into the soil what the plants take out, and protecting them during the summer from too much moisture loss in the heat....also they can put cats off using your flowerbeds as their litter trays....You can put it on the ground all year round, and just turn it over and fork it in now and again.

True..

Used coffee grounds make great plant food for acid-loving plants! The coffee grounds contain about 4% nitrogen, 1% phosphorus, and 3% potassium. The grounds may be scratched directly into the soil or diluted with water to create an organic, liquid fertilizer. This is great for vegetable plants, roses and other acid-loving plants such as azaleas, blueberries, and conifers. Be careful of using fresh coffee grounds on new transplants and young plants.
