All good things have to come to an end eventually. Maybe it is better he leaves on a high whilst still competitive, unlike the mistake Nigel Mansel made. I hope that his doesn't regret this decision and make more come backs than Deep purple (like Mansell did when way past his prime). It would have been fantastic to see Schumacher and Raikonin as team mates.
It is Max Moseley that is killing F1, not MS. Maybe MS can take over from Moseley. He could not possible be any worse.

it's bad in a way because he is still competitive, he's just 2 points behind alonso at the moment for the world championship. there's no question michael schumacher still has what it takes, but as he publicly stated his retirement is a matter of personal decision, as an f1 fan we have have to respect that.
will his retirement be good or bad for the sport?? only time will tell.. i've known people who watch f1 just because of michael schumacher and there are those who are tired of him and just want a new formula 1 racing without schumi.
in the end with his upcoming retirement no one can question the contribution of michael schumacher to the sport. whether you like him or not he will certainly be missed. formula 1 will never be the same again starting next season.

There are pros and contras.
Michael has been toying with the idea of retiring since his last championship, Alonso delayed the decisión last year with his unexpected interruption in the Ferrari zaga. With the developing results this year the idea comes back as a fact considering that it’s very plausible a new championship, or at least the best comeback ever seen in F1.
Added to all this the very good results from F. Massa and the signing of Kimi Raikkonnen for the next season pave the way for Schumi to retire without compromising their leadership as a team.
The Massa – Raikkonnen duo represent a very good chance to drive Ferrari to a new championship next season, with the added chili that there is no full supremacy of a man alone, Schumi, but instead the new face of he competition will be focused in the quest of new leaders in the upcoming generation like Kubica, Alonso, Heidfeld, Massa, Raikkonen, De la Rosa, the upcoming stars who are lucky enough to get a good car.

Very good, gives F1 the chance to clean up its image and to see fantastic battles for wins and for the titles.
I think there will be 3-or 4-way battles for the title in 2007 and 2008, with Alonso moving to McLaren, Raikkonen to Ferrari, Kovalainen promoted to race driver at Renault and Kubica in an ever-improving BMW.
