The first kings of Spain where Fernando and Isabel as Spain was created when muslims were kicked out. There were kings before but they were kings of areas forming Spain not all of it. For instance Fernando was king of Aragón (East of Spain) and Isabel was the queen of Castilla (Centre and West of Spain), when they got married and reconquered the south, Spain was created as it is now.
