Law Enforcement is a good career for you with your background. I was Infantry for 3 years and Military Police for 5. I got out and got hired right away as a police officer in Texas.

What you did in the Military is not as important as the fact that you were in the Military. Law Enforcement is a Para Military Organization, and that will help you with transitioning into the Civilian World without going cold turkey.

The fact that you were Infantry will also help though. You have small weapons knowledge and marksmanship already down. You also know how to work as a team and are wiling to put you life on the line.

Shop around though. Depending on the size of the town and the type of Law Enforcement you get into plays a lot into the amount your gonna get paid. A lot of your smaller departments will require that you are TCLEOS certified already. The larger departments will have an academy for you to go through or will pay you a salary while you go to school.

You could also use some of that duty free money to help pay the bills, while you use the Army College Fund to pay for the police academy. Most Academy's are about 16 weeks long.

Good Luck!!!!

Try the police department. They may like the fact that you have a military background and hire you quickly.
My Uncle is a retired state trooper in Texas and his military background helped him years ago.

You can also look at work at either county or state prisons. They may have dfferent requirements than a police force.
