I think that the dominant theme of life in this era is loneliness - celebrities substitute for the lack of real community and people can speak about a shared point of reference - where morals and values no longer speak to everyone in the same way. I don't know - it could also be boredom and a lack of applying the mind.

Because everyone loves a celebrity and answering their questions makes them feel close - like perhaps they could be buddies! Either that, or they think that if they give a really original answer, the celeb may think they're brilliant! (Even though they don't know who they are). Some people have strange ideas.

1) Uh... *scratches head* Well, I'm hoping to get closer to the celebrity so I just answer her stupid question... *whistles*
Or...
2) Of course! To make that celebrity feel or become aware how stupid can she be in the eyes of the masses!

Now choose whichever you think applies the most :P

A question is a question, celebrities have been the focus it is true, and people are the audience. They need audience ,they need words ,and feelings just as we all do, but they do tend to project themselves in such a manor as having the greatest need of all.

The unrealistic expectation that the celebrity will think their "wisdom" will impress them so much they'll want to meet the author.

Everbody wants to be able to say I know a famous person, so answering their questions is a step closer to saying it.
