A doula is a support person during labor and delivery. They are not a midwife and do not do medical procedures or deliver the baby. They practice in homes, maternity/birthing centers and some hospitals. You need to be sure the place she plans to deliver allows doulas.

Using a doula doesn't replace or exclude the partner, by the way. But they can provide support in addition to your coaching and presence as they are there solely for the laboring woman. If you need a meal or bathroom break, your partner is never left alone to cope.

I'm not sure where you are in the world, but you can do a search for "doula" and the name of your city. They may be listed in the telephone book and most midwives and many OB's will have lists ot those available where you are. Some insurance plans pay for the services of a doula, but some only pay if the doula is certified. You will need to do some homework.

Wow. He sounds like a jerk. If you want this baby, tell him that you are keeping it and that's the end of the discussion. If he still tells you to get rid of it, leave his a**. Do you really want this child growing up with a dad that never wanted it in the first place? And, whats this crap about you trapping him? After six years? He has his own issues that he needs to work out. You can do much better hun! And congrats!!!
