Relations , carrying the adjectives after their names, also implies their duties towards you ! And their duty to you is automatically your expectations from them ! When they fail to come up to your expectations, (for what ever reason) the relationship is affected.
Also, when they do beyond expectation (due to any reason) the relationship seems to deepen ! But any bond based on expectation is always unsteady.
Instead, have no expectations, and trust them to realise for themselves their duty towards relatives, and accept them as they are, KEEPING THE CHOICE OF SITUATION-BASED-ACTION with you, the relationship (in your experience) is steady.
