My 16wk old usually guzzles through 6oz or 7oz bottles 5 times a day. Over the last 3 days it seems a struggle to get him to take 4ozs per feed! He seems perfectly happy and content and isn't running a temperature - but when offered a bottle is screaming and arching his back away from the bottle after half a feed. We changed from slow flow to medium flow teats about 2 weeks ago - I'm not sure if this has had an effect - he seemed fine on them at first. Any advice please??

First, don't let the nipple nazis get to you. You're not a bad mother for feeding your child formula. There's a ton of reasons why a woman may not breast feed and frankly, it's your child and your decision.

As for your child's change in appetite, it's perfectly natural for appetites to change, as well as for how much he wants at a feeding. As long as he is accepting the bottle and is eating something and he's not losing weight, you're fine. Changing the flow of the nipple can be some of the reason he's not wanting as much too. He's getting more milk at a faster rate and may be feeling full more quickly. Kids are like calves... when they're hungry, they'll eat.

First don't touch them yet she's probably still around, put some flour in the bottom of the mailbox sprinkled so that you'll know if shes been back. If she hasn't been back by tomorrow take them and keep them in a small box with towels. You can feed them with an eye dropper a mixture of yogurt (non flavored) bread, peaches or pears pureed in a food processor. Feed until the crop is slightly rounded about one teaspoon per bird per hour Every hour during the day. If you have to go a few hours it will be ok but they must be feed often. When they are almost fully feathered you can start offering them, moistened cat food.

He could just not be growing. Not to worry. That's what we say when kids don't eat alot that day. Oh I guess Bree isn't growing today she didn't eat that much. Kids get growth spurts and it's about time for his. He will pick up again. Maybe he's also just weaning himself off of breast milk. Mine did that too.

Questions to ask yourself....... Is what is going in coming out?? if he has fewer wet/poopy diapers you might wanna be concerned. Is his temprament the same? or is he cranky whiny? is he lethargic (sleepy all the time now)?? You've already ruled out fever. Call dr and see what he/she says. Try switching back to slow flow because sometimes they just arent ready for that yet and don't like it. It takes them a while to decide. Best of luck to you!! You will look back at this time as an "easy parenting problem" Wait for the terrible twos.

I wouldn't worry. My daughter is 22 months old and it seems like this has been a battle the whole 22 months. Bottom line, he'll eat when he is hungry. I know that we did have to go back and forth with the different nipple flows though. That did upset my daughters tummy. But don't stress out to bad, even adults go through stages, sometimes your hungry, sometimes not.

He could be getting ready for a growth spurt. My daughter very often had less of an appetite just prior to a growth spurt then when it was all over would graduate to even MORE food/bottle. And you don't have to be so "touchy" about the breastfeeding. I didn't breastfeed my daughter and gosh she turned out healthy and happy and is now 20 years old.

I'd say he's starting to teeth and your best bet would be to see his doctor and if you want something before than baby orajel and see if that makes a difference. It might be painful for him to suck and that might help.

If otherwise he is fine his temperament, movements, moods, and sleep its okay in normal condition. normal condition is if baby is making bed wet for atleast six times a day than he is taking his part.
even my daughter had same mannerism.
it can be due to teething problem, can be due to changing pattern of feed , can be due to change in his needs as he grow older or can be due to nothing at all
donot afraid see him for one or two day if u feel some problem visit a paditrition.
