I wasn't aware that he ever owned a dog. According to his biographer Lawrence Sutin and by his own account, he owned various cats from the 1950s to the 1980s, including Horace, Willis, Fred, Magnificat and Pinky. He later came to believe that Pink was in fact the reincarnation in cat form of the late SF writer/editor Antony Boucher. But then old Phil did take an awful lot of drugs at one period.
