I assume that you are referring to the movie directed by Kim Ji-Woon...

One interpretation is that Sun-woo fantasised the whole story.

Another interpretation places it as an extended flashback, where Sun-woo was on top of the world, before it all came crashing down. His fading reflection represents the end of his life.

Which of these interpretations do you prefer or do you have another solution that works?!
