-Try activities or centres that would ingourage youths and juvenile delinqouns of the streets. A scate park or basketball court.
-And to prevent it from just becoming a meeting and "hang out" place, host regular events there. Eg competitions, community days. This also helps people meet others in their community and form bonds
-Try and get religous communities involved eg ask the local church to have a "Fete day, open to people of all religions". That way people can meet outside their usual groups.

The most important thing is advertising these events, and also putting posters and signs up, indicating that the council is aiming to clean up the area and make it safer,
PR is very expensive, but it is money well invested.

Depending on who tends to commit the most crime in your area, I saw an interesting story about a former pro soccer player in Nigeria. He noticed lots of young men/teenage boys loitering and not having much to do. There wasn't a lot of employment opportunities in the area, and they were resorting to pick-pocketing and robbery for menoy.

He organized a soccer club and had the kids meet to play and he taught them what he knew aobut soccer. They created teams and played against each other. It gave them something positive to do, provided an outlet for their energies and forged a sense of camaraderie. Also, he got a program (may have been volunteers) to show these boys some skills - things like welding, auto repair, kind of manual jobs, but ones that needed a skill (but not brain surgery).

Boredom is one of the biggest reasons kids do petty crime, and once you have a record, it's hard to get a good job or get into a good school, and it all goes downhill from there.

1) Push for more police in the area.
2) Make sure additional police are enforcing all regulations, including "Quality of Life" offences (e.g. loud radios, open containers, etc.)
3) Repeat success in other areas.

Quin most criminals are young people.
So, 1st talk to your local council to find out what they are doing.
From your talk, organise a programme of interest for young people and encourage them to get a life..in education or good jobs.
Then keep doing a follow up to see your results in those you invited for your programme.
