First understand the basic. The sky is divided into 12 parts on the basis of particular sign displayed by the group of stars which were the farthest from Earth or our Solar system. Here the mathematic rule of the farthest was taken as constant all others as variables. The sun sign means the position of the Sun in one of those Signs or Rashis ( in Hindi ) and Moon sign means position of Moon in one of those 12 signs as defined.

The moon sign is more accurate because the Moon changes a sign in appx 2 days or 48 to 54 hours whereas the Sun changes a sign in 30 days. Meaning if the Sun at present is in Virgo it would change and go to Libra only after 30 days and the speed is fixed. Secondly in Moon sign we also take into consideration your ascendant or Lagna which changes almost every two hours, meaning it changes a sign in every two hours. This is like zeroing onto something more closely. Whereas Sun sign would be the same for all the people born within the span of 30 days.
