because they say that waxing is painless and my wife cannot take it. so if waxing really hurts then mabye epilators hurt. if you can please compare it to waxing so i understand the pain scale.

oh and how long do they last compared to shaving, and are they safe for use close to the vaginal area.

It seems to vary by individual (although I've never heard anyone say waxing was painless - most people just tolerate the pain). My sister and I both like the epilators and find the twinge preferable to being cut with razors, but I know of others who think they are painful. The difference from waxing is that with waxing, there is a sudden, sharp pain involved, while with epilators, one hair at a time is pulled. The epilators are more like tweezing.
